I STILL GBADUN NIGERIA – By Israel M.A

Despite the fact that I went to bed on an empty stomach yester night; well, not that empty, I took bread and akara and a lot of water. I still gbadun Nigeria.
Regardless of the lackluster leadership of the president, the ever increasing price of kerosene and the incessant strikes in our universities; well, just frustrated that I may not be able to resume camp this November, thanks to ASUU, NASUU, FUTASU and JONASU; I still gbadun Nigeria.

Even though our amiable and very patient Dame insulted over 130million hungry and frustrated Nigerians like myself by travelling across seven rivers and seas in order to take a ‘rest’; does she mean that my small village in the southwestern part of Ekiti is not much of a resting place? Please disregard the ‘lie’ by saharareporters, the first lady is not sick, she’s going to miss our 52nd anniversary celebration because she needs to rest. The presidency wants us, a country of over 150million people to believe a dumb lie. I wish her quick recovery, sorry, rest. In spite of the above, I still gbadun Nigeria.
In as much as I would have wanted an elaborate independence celebration in Eagle square as usual, that won’t be possible. The boko haram sect has ordered the president to celebrate inside his lavishly furnished villa or else – and as a listening president, he’s ‘fully’ committed to the boko haram threat. So, I’m condemned to my television set to watch a predictably boring and uninspiring independence (recorded and edited) speech. Wow! Just remembered I don’t even have a TV in my hostel room.
Although, I may not be in the independence costume like the president and his extravagant cabinet members; ‘I no even get money to buy kerosene sef’ I stil gbadun Nigeria.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY NIGERIA!
